How To Enjoy Your Own Company

It's easy to feel alone when you're in quarantine but it's important to understand that you are not alone. Quarantine is an opportunity for you to learn about yourself, grow, find joy in the little things and ultimately, fall in love with your own company.

In the last couple of weeks, i've been doing things alone at home. I've started doing more creative things such as releasing Instagram videos and motivational speaking because there is more free time. I thought why not take advantage of this opportunity because there might not come a time where we'll be indoors for this long.

1. Do things that make you feel good. This can include dressing up, pampering yourself, treating yourself and so much more. It's important we do these things because that is what will get you up in the morning, what will get you through the week, and what will get you through quarantine. I like connecting with people online as this is what makes me feel good and helps me learn more about other people, and the world.

2. Spend time doing the things that bring you joy. This is similar to the first point and can involve a variety of activities such as cooking, baking, singing, dancing, painting and much more. I always encourage people to do a hobby they enjoy because you're not obliged to live a life that's work, work, work. Life is too short for this and you need to start doing the things that bring you joy. Before, people kept saying they didn't have time but now there's more time than ever. Start feeling good about yourself and make time to do the things that are important to you.

3. Work on your dreams and goals. Many people dismiss this because they feel like they'll never be able to accomplish certain things, family members are unsupportive or they're used to the standard working life. You need to remember that only YOU are living YOUR life, so you have every right to accomplish your dreams and goals. You don't want to be in your 60's and regret that you never gave these things a chance. You'll learn more about yourself and you'll be able to enjoy being around yourself a lot more.

4. Solo dates. You don't need a partner or spouse to go on a date with. If you're able to go out by yourself then do so! Take yourself out for dinner, to a movie, to the beach. If you can't go out, order take-out, dessert or watch a movie from the comfort of your own home. I do this every weekend and it really does make me enjoy my company. So if you haven't tried this already, please do and let me know how it goes :)

5. Take a break. Studies have shown that some people who work from home, feel the need to be productive all the time. I was that person. Not only does this tire you out, but you're so busy that you forget abut the things that are important to you. Take a 10 minute break every hour from work, take an afternoon off when things start piling up, dedicate the weekend for your passions or hobbies and nothing else. This will prevent stress, allow you to reset and re-evaluate what's important to you.

If you do these things, you'll never feel bored and will come to enjoy your own company. As human beings we thrive off human connection so if you're feeling lonely, reach out to someone and talk to them. The next time you're wanting connection, ask yourself "Am I giving love to myself and to others?".

I hope you enjoyed this blog post and you're all taking care of yourself during this time.

Stay safe.
